VISION

By the grace and empowerment of God, Christians actively participate in the Holy Spirit’s life transforming process, until Christ is formed in us (2 Pet.1:3-11; Gal.4:19), for the glory of God, abundance of our own lives and the edification of others.

MISSION

Integrate spiritual formation studies, practices, and research into various levels of academic endeavors in the seminary, and integrate its understanding and practices into discipleship ministries in the Chinese American churches. Cultivate Christ-like character among the Chinese American pastors and church leaders and promote a culture that values Christian character in the churches.

CHURCH RESOURCES

SCFC offers free online workshops that introduce practical applications of spiritual formation through teaching and guided practices, helping nurture believers’ inner life
and integrate spiritual disciplines into everyday living.

3/14 | Lectio Divina: A Transformative Way of Praying Scripture (Read More)
8/8 | Imitating Christ — Six Streams of Living Water

The conference addresses the church’s need to integrate discipleship and spiritual formation. Through plenary sessions, workshops, and practices, it equips pastors and church leaders with practical resources to cultivate holistic spiritual growth and faithful discipleship within the church.

The Spiritual Formation training programs offer learning pathways at the Extension, Diploma, and Master’s levels. Integrating theological foundations with spiritual practices and lived application, the programs cultivate attentiveness to the guidance of the Holy Spirit and equip students to live out the character and life of Christ in both life and ministry. For details, please visit the SCFC website: Education – Academic Structure & Degrees.

  • Spiritual Formation Consultation for Churches
The SCFC Coordinator of Church Ministries provides consultation for churches seeking to establish or deepen spiritual formation ministries. Through phone calls, emails, or online meetings, this consultation addresses practical needs, offers directional guidance, and recommends appropriate resources and courses to support pastors and church leaders in nurturing the spiritual growth of their congregations.
  • Pastors & Leaders Retreats
This Retreat offers pastors three days set apart for rest and renewal in the presence of God. Through silence, prayer, Scripture meditation, reflection, and one to one spiritual direction, participants reconnect with God’s calling, receive spiritual nourishment, and experience renewal in their life and ministry.
  • Doctor of Ministry (DMin) in Spiritual Formation
This Doctor of Ministry degree is designed for pastors who seek to deepen their personal spiritual life and integrate spiritual formation into church ministry. Through coursework and research that combine theological reflection, spiritual disciplines, and church application, the program equips leaders to guide transformational growth within congregational life.
  • Online Character Formation Courses With Guided Practices (4 weeks,2 hours per week)
This online course runs for four weeks and provides a structured, accessible way for church members and leaders to practice living out Christlike character. Courses may be taught live via Zoom by the SCFC Director, Dr. Dora Wang, or delivered through pre-recorded video lessons, with guided practices incorporated into each session. Each course focuses on one character trait, and live Zoom sessions require advance scheduling.
  • Online Spiritual Formation Groups (3–9 months)
Online Practice Groups help churches develop spiritual disciplines and foster long-term spiritual growth among believers. Led by trained SCFC facilitators, these groups combine teaching with regular online group practices. Each three-month cohort focuses on one spiritual discipline and includes an optional mid-term retreat, helping participants integrate inner spiritual formation into everyday life.  Churches may enroll for one to three terms, with each term lasting three months.
  • Churchwide Spiritual Formation Weekend
The Churchwide Spiritual Formation Weekend is a time of spiritual renewal for the whole church, inviting participants to pause and refocus on growth in Christ. Through teaching, spiritual practices, worship, reflection, and sharing, the church is guided to deepen its relationship with God and live out the life of Christ both personally and corporately.
  • Church Retreats (One-Day or Three-Day)
Church Retreats are designed to help participants experience deep rest and attentiveness before God. Except for designated teaching sessions, the retreat is kept in silence, allowing participants to draw near to God through Scripture meditation, prayer, and listening to the guidance of the Holy Spirit.
  • Church Spiritual Formation Sunday School (Los Angeles Area)
This Sunday School is an in-person teaching ministry offered exclusively to churches in the Los Angeles area. Dr. Dora Wang or SCFC-trained staff will visit local churches to teach the biblical foundations of spiritual formation during the Sunday school hour, fostering communal spiritual practices, life transformation, and Christlike living within the church.

COURSE OVERVIEW

F A Q

Since the TEE courses are offered to the general public while the SFD is a Master degree program, it takes 6
units of the former to replace a 3-unit SFD course, provided that the contents are similar. However, the
Association of Theological Schools (ATS) accreditation allows only 2 transferred courses at the Master degree
level, i.e., 6 credits.

If you had taken two years of the SF courses that Pastor Mimi Yeh taught for the FiCF/TEE Certificate program,
they can replace the SF110 course offered in the SFD program. If you had taken the courses “Holistic Personal
Growth” taught by Dr. Anita Meng and “Biblical Foundations of Spiritual Formation” taught by Dr. Dora Wang in
the FiCF/TEE certificate program, they can replace either one of the two same courses in the SFD program, and
waive the other by taking a SFD elective course in its place.

Yes. All 10 SFD courses constitute the core (required) courses of the future MCS-SF degree program; therefore,
all credits are transferable.

No. You can apply directly to SFD or to take three courses as a “pre-student” status.

If you miss it for the first time, you can take it when the course is offered in the next round. However, based on
the course development and student triads/quartets for in-class and out of class spiritual practices, we
encourage you to follow the program if possible.

Yes.

Upcoming Spiritual Formation Workshop please see “Spiritual Practice” on this page.

If there are enough students in 2027, the program can be offered.
